Just few days after the inauguration of Barack Obama Greater Giyani Followed sooth in its own way of doing by inaugurating a tested leader that has served the community and the organization she represent. It was with jubilation and sense of hope amongst people of Greater Giyani when the new mayor Cllr. Dorries Mathebula was sworn in on Wednesday the 04th February 2009. She is described by many as a committed and passionate about serving the community. In her speech she thanked her predecessors Rev. Ntindani and Angy Ramaipadi of whom she believed have made a solid foundation in which she will continue.

She went further to point out that "We do not intend to deviate from the plans already agreed upon and adopted by Council, but it is critical to commit myself to the community that it should definitely not business as usual in terms of implementation of municipal plans and programmes". Said the Mayor. This augurs well with the view of many of the people she saved in the African National Congress that her leadership style is that of being hands on and striving for results. It also become clear from her address that she believes in team work that includes consultation with all stakeholders, it is within the same context that she made a clarion call to all stakeholders and professionals to begin to play the role in resolving the local socio- economic challenges.
